About Chandipur

Integrated Test Range is located at Chandipur in the eastern part of India in the state of Odisha. It enjoys a great geographical location advantage as it is on the coast line of Bay of Bengal and well connected by Rail and Road with major cities of India. Located on the unique sea beach of Chandipur which has attained global popularity due to the ‘Vanishing Sea’ phenomena, provides an advantage for weapon system test in term of recovery of flight vehicles and positioning of land targets.

Water recedes about 5 km during low tide and comes back to coast during high tide. This phenomenon happens twice a day. Tourists from different parts of the world visit Chandipur sea beach to witness this event. Being in the tropical region, the summer at Chandipur is generally warm accompanied by monsoon rains. The winter season from December to February is more comfortable with average high and low temperatures of 28 °C and 13 °C respectively and no rainfall occurs except a few occasions due to western disturbances. Winter is especially enjoyable during the month of February at Chandipur because of bright sunny days with seasonal flowers blooming all around. That is why the Conference has been scheduled in the month of February, the most pleasant part of the year.
