National Conference on Range Technology (NACORT 2006) was organized by Integrated Test Range, Chandipur during 28th – 30th November, 2006. The objective of this conference was to bring together various scientists, engineers, technologists and entrepreneurs of the country, who are engaged in R & D activities of Test and Evaluation along with Range Instrumentation Systems and to share their expertise and infrastructures so as to initiate collaborative R & D work of National Interest.
Papers were invited to focus various areas of Range Technology like Electro Optical Tracking Systems, Tracking Radar Systems, Phased Array Radar Systems, Integrated Telemetry Tracking and Command Network, Phased Array Telemetry System, Doppler Radars and applications in Trajectography. The conference also plans to cover areas related to Automatic Target Detection and Tracking, Multi Target Tracking and Analysis, Air and Ship Borne Tracking Systems, Real Time Software for Test Range application, Expert System for Range Safety Decision Making, Simulation Software, Target Presentation and Ranging, Broadband, Underwater and Satellite Communication, Video Streaming, Cryptography, Surveillance and Security.
There was an overwhelming response from India and Abroad for this conference. After a thorough evaluation, about 55 papers were selected for oral presentation and an equal number for poster presentation. All the papers were organized into three tracks. They are:

There were four keynote addresses during the conference. They were as under:
Along with the conference, an exhibition was also organised, which showcased the leading technologies available in the field of Test and Evaluation. This provided an unique opportunity for the delegates to interact with the industries. The exhibits were from various public and private sectors and academic institutions. About 70 industries from India and abroad showcased their products and technologies related to defence applications.
The conference was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the then President of India. Honourable Governor of Orissa Dr Rameswar Thakur also graced the occasion. Sri M Natarajan, SA to RM and DG R &D and Dr V K Saraswat, CC R & D were also present on this auspicious occasion. Sri A K Checker, Director, ITR was the Chairman of the conference and Dr B K Das, Joint Director, ITR was the Convenor. A souvenir having the compilation of all the papers was released during inauguration. The proceedings was also released in the form of a CD (interactive) during this occasion.
More than 300 delegates from India and Abroad participated in the conference. The participating countries were USA, UK, Australia, Denmark, Italy, France, Switzerland, Singapore etc. In general, it was very well organized conference and was quite effective for the delegates. This is the first time, ITR has organized such a conference which was truly world class.
